Seestar Mosaic Manager — Licence (Donationware)

Seestar Mosaic Manager ("the Software") is donationware: you may use it free of charge. If it is useful to you, you are welcome to make a voluntary donation; every donation goes to the Smart Sky Survey project (https://smartskysurvey.com).

By installing or using the Software you accept the following terms.

1. Permitted use

You may install and use the Software free of charge, on any number of your own computers, for private, non-commercial purposes.

2. Donations

The Software is free. Donations are voluntary and do not create any claim to support, updates, features or any other service. All donations are used to support the Smart Sky Survey project. Smart Sky Survey is a private project, not a registered charity; no donation receipts can be issued.

3. Restrictions

Without prior written permission from MiceInSpace Development you may not:

copy, publish, share, distribute, sell, rent or lend the Software or parts of it, offer it for download, or bundle it with other products — please point others to https://smm.smartskysurvey.com instead;
use the Software commercially;
remove or change copyright, licence or trademark notices.

Rights you have under mandatory law (for example decompiling for interoperability under § 69e of the German Copyright Act) remain unaffected.

4. Third-party components

The Software contains third-party components, each under its own licence (see THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md). In particular, Qt for Python (PySide6) and Qt are used under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3. Nothing in this licence restricts your rights under those licences — for example, to replace the Qt libraries in the application folder with your own versions.

5. Independent project — no affiliation with ZWO

The Software is not made, endorsed or supported by ZWO (Suzhou ZWO Co., Ltd.). "ZWO" and "Seestar" are trademarks of their owner and are used only to describe what the Software works with. The Software uses the Seestar account service the way the Seestar app does, without ZWO's approval; ZWO may change or block that at any time, and the Software may then stop working in part or in full. You are responsible for using your Seestar account in line with ZWO's terms.

6. No warranty, use at your own risk

The Software is provided "as is", free of charge, without warranty of any kind — in particular without warranty that it is free of errors, works without interruption, or is suitable for a particular purpose. You use it at your own risk. Check your custom objects, plans and mosaic panels before you observe. Keep backups of your projects.

7. Limitation of liability

MiceInSpace Development is liable only for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, and under mandatory statutory provisions (for example for injury to life, body or health, or under the German Product Liability Act). Any further liability — in particular for loss of data, custom objects, plans, observing time or images — is excluded.

8. Termination

The right to use the Software ends automatically if you breach these terms. You must then delete all copies.

9. Applicable law

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If a provision is invalid, the others remain in force.

Qt and PySide6 (GNU LGPL v3)

Qt for Python and the Qt libraries are licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License version 3, which builds on the GNU General Public License version 3. The full texts are in licenses/LGPL-3.0.txt and licenses/GPL-3.0.txt.

The application uses the unmodified Qt and PySide6 libraries as separate shared libraries (on macOS inside Seestar Mosaic Manager.app/Contents/Frameworks, on Windows in the _internal folder next to the program). You may replace them with your own compatible builds of the same version.
The source code of Qt and PySide6 is available from https://code.qt.io and https://download.qt.io/official_releases/QtForPython/. On request we send you the exact version used, for at least three years after we last distributed this version: contact@smartskysurvey.com.
